It’s a proud concert band that carved out its own niche in West Coast naval history.
Naden Band of Maritime Forces performs at Chilliwack United Church on Tuesday, May 8.
The Naden Band, Canada’s Navy band on the West Coast, is an ensemble of 35 professional musicians who, as ambassadors of national pride and goodwill, offer a concert band repertoire played with exquisite precision and musicality.
The band has been part of naval tradition on the West Coast for decades. Formed during World War II, the Naden Band kept up both civilian and military morale with concerts, dances and radio broadcasts. They played for base ceremonies, monthly church parades and public parades through the streets Victoria and Vancouver.
After being cut from the federal budget in 1994, the Naden Band was reinstated in 1997 and since then has continued building a reputation for musical excellence.
Naden Band, May 8, at Chilliwack United, 45835 Spadina Avenue.
Tickets $25 general, $20 seniors/youth may be purchased at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Box Office, 9201 Corbould Avenue. 604-316-2729.
