Nanaimo artists host Hammond Bay Studio Tour

NANAIMO - Studio tour allows people a peek into the creative world of artists in north Nanaimo.

Hammond Bay artisans are opening their doors during the fourth annual studio tour held Saturday and Sunday (May 28-29).

This year’s event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features several studios and artists of various disciplines; guest artists will also share the spaces.

“The guest artists allow us to change up the tour and keep it fresh,” said Kathryn Galvin, an artist participating in the tour. “It adds to the flavour of the tour.”

She said the tour is an opportunity for people to meet the artists, see their workspaces and talk to them about what inspires their work and their creative processes.

Galvin said the artists love to talk to attendees because artists often work alone.

“We enjoy it as much as the people who come out and enjoy it,” said Galvin. “It’s just a nice social way to spend a Saturday or Sunday in Nanaimo.”

The studios in the tour will be marked with red balloons. For brochures, a map of the tour route and more information, please go to http://hammondbaystudiotour.jimdo.com.
