The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra (NCO) is coming to Parksville this weekend to perform their spring concert, Expressions of the Heart.
The program includes a baroque concerto grosso by Geminiani, Gustav Holst’s A Moorside Suite and Vaughan William’s Fantasia on Greensleeves. The group will also play the adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony #5, which is performed by three harps alongside the string orchestra.
The main feature of the concert will be Mozart’s Concerto in A Major for Clarinet, which will be played by Nanaimo’s Liam Pistor. Besides being a skilled clarinet player, Pistor is a piano accompanist for three local choirs and sings in the Sinclair Singers chamber choir.
Pistor’s appearance is in line with the NCO mandate, which is to mentor, encourage and provide opportunities for young musicians in the mid-Island region. The chamber orchestra also contains three scholarship winners in the violin section, a flute player that won this year’s Young Musician’s Concerto Competition and three young harpists for this program.
