Love and concern motivated a group of Nanaimo residents to create the Boost the Block-Fight the Fire fundraiser to help tenants affected by the Jean Burns building fire, said Tina Coldwell, event organizer.
“There was a group of us that got together after the fire, 12 of us, and wanted to help so we are just getting it done,” said Coldwell, in an e-mail.
The event is being held Saturday (May 7) at the Queen’s, the Cambie and the Vault Café from noon to 4 p.m.
There are nine musical acts split amongst the three venues.
Tickets are a suggested donation of $7 in advance from the Queen’s, Mambo Pizza or Arbutus Music or $10 at the door. A ticket gets an attendee access to all three venues.
All money raised will go into the Commercial Street Fire Fund, and any business affected will receive an equal share of the money, said Coldwell.
Silent auctions will be held at all locations. Businesses or individuals willing to donate an item for the silent auction can drop them off at the Queen’s or Mambos Pizza or e-mail tinaclean@shaw.ca to have the item picked up.
The Queen’s performance features The Moonriders from noon to 1 p.m.; Big Twang Theory 1:15-2 p.m.; Jayden Holman, 2:15-3 p.m.; Backstage Whiskey, 3:15-4 p.m., silent auction at 4 p.m.
The Cambie features Black Beach, Young Plantz and a silent auction.
The Vault Café features Aaron James and Blackwater from noon to 1 p.m.; David Essig, 1-2 pm.; Ah, Venice from 2:30-3:30 p.m. and a silent art auction.
