It was a riot of artistic proportions.
The third annual Riot on the Roof, held by the Vernon Public Art Gallery, featured all kinds of art disciplines –– from visual, performance, music and more –– on all levels of the city parkade on 31st Avenue Saturday.
Bands provided some ear candy playing atop the roof of the parkade, while mostly young revelers visited each floor to experience visual delights.
They could be seen admiring the live painting demonstrations, and body adornments courtesy of Vernon’s Genesis Tattoo and Design.
Then there was model Alicia Hopkins, wearing a poofed blonde wig and space-age leather tunic with lace collar, designed by Daniel Amezcua, and racoon eyes painted by makeup artist Sara Vey, looking a lot like Daryl Hannah’s android character from cult film Blade Runner –– tres cool.
Kelowna’s Kinshira Fire troupe then let loose with some poi spinning and fire theatrics that seared through the night.
The VPAG’s youth ambassador Kristin Burns, who organized the event and finished her summer term at the gallery Thursday, summed it up best:”This year’s Riot rocked.”
