New choir to start in Qualicum Bay

Choir follows a African hand drumming course

A new community choir in Qualicum Bay is beginning this Friday (Jan. 19) at the Lighthouse Community Hall.

Sing Out is a community choir aimed at putting “the fun back into singing,” says its organizer.

The choir, organized by Monica Hofer, will be singing from traditions such as chants, rounds, SATB (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), folk songs and songs in other languages.

No experience is necessary.

The community choir will meet Fridays, Jan. 19 to Feb. 23, from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at Lighthouse Community Hall (240 Lions Way, Qualicum Bay).

The cost is $65 for six weeks.

Prior to choir rehearsals each evening, Hofer will also be hosting a beginner African hand-drumming course.

The drumming classes will run Fridays from Jan. 19 to Feb. 23 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. each evening at Lighthouse Community Hall.

The cost for six weeks is $72. No experience is necessary.
