A young man visits Red Rock in Stellaqua, B.C. to reconcile himself to his friend’s suicide.  He arrives with the intention of finding peace in his own way, but an unexpected encounter with other visitors to the site changes his perspective.

Without giving the plot away, Rayanne Charlie, drama teacher at Lakes District Secondary School (LDSS), describes an upcoming one-act play that her theatre group is working on.

“It’s a four-person play,” Charlie said.  “It’s a travelling play, so it would be handy to have two casts so we could split up the workload.”

The play, a follow-up to Walk On Moss, is written to explore the theme of bullying with the addition of a First Nations perspective.

“It has some of the teachings that come from a First Nations perspective on homophobia and homosexuality because the boy is bullied at school because of homophobia,” said Charlie.

The play was written by the Eagle Down Collective and it is meant to be a travelling show, like Walk On Moss.

Each performance of the play will lead to a sharing circle where audience members become participants in what they have just witnessed.

“The idea is to take four major questions about bullying and with the help of counsellors and student-speakers to address those questions in the circle,” Charlie said.

Charlie has an audition planned for today, Jan. 16, 2013.  Not only will they need actors to play four characters (eight characters if they can form two casts), but the production will need volunteers to help with staging, travel and general assistance.

“We also invite people who are interested in helping out with the dialogue after the play,” she said.
