The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO) has kicked off single ticket sales for the 2016-17 season performing live  in Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon starting in October through May.

This season, the OSO will perform three symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn, as well as Mussorgsky’s towering Pictures at an Exhibition.

The OSO will also pay tribute to vibrant music from Latin and South America.

The Christmas performance of Messiah will appeal to those who love tradition, and a new collaboration with Ballet Kelowna to celebrate Canada’s Sesquicentennial.

Each of the Deloitte Masterworks Series concerts will feature a pre-concert chat, open dress rehearsals, family matinées, school concerts, preschool activities and the OSO Chorus and the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra.

The season opens in Kelowna on Friday, Oct. 21, 7:30 p.m., at Kelowna Community Theatre (doors open and pre-concert chat 6:30 p.m.) with additional performances in Penticton Saturday, Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m.  and Vernon on Sunday, Oct.23, 7 p.m.Tickets are $56.25 for adults; $49 for seniors and $26.75 for youth, available for the Kelowna concerts by phone through Kelowna Tickets at 250-862-2867 or online at okanagansymphony.com.

Season tickets and single tickets are now available for purchase and audiences are encouraged to purchase tickets early as many performances are expected to sell out well in advance.

“Planning a season is one of the great joys of being a Music Director,” said Rosemary Thomson, OSO music director.

“There is so much wonderful music to choose from. Our artistic planning team is excited to share our season with you, our passionate audience, and we hope that it will stir your imagination as you consider these concerts.”

The season opens in October with the infectious rhythm of Kodaly and soaring music of Brahms and Tchaikovsky, what Thomson calls the “meat and potatoes” of symphonic music.

The OSO is the third largest professional symphony orchestra in B.C.,  started in 1960.
