Retro rock and high-energy blues return to the Snoring Sasquatch on Aug. 25. Featuring Scott Irvine on drums, Rick Potyok and Erich Schmidt on guitars, and Jan MacDonald on bass, Creston’s own Nightshade aims to keep the dance floor full and jumping.
Many will be familiar with Irvine and Potyok from their extensive history playing throughout the Kootenays with a variety of local musicians. When you put them together with dynamic newcomer Schmidt and MacDonald on bass, you have a combination with a wide range of tastes and favorites. As the owners of House of Rock, Potyok and MacDonald also have a long history of presenting live music featuring local musicians.
“We love playing the Snoring Sasquatch because it’s a venue that gives so much to our community and has opened their doors repeatedly to our students at the House of Rock to give them an awesome performance space” says MacDonald. “With our classes filling up rapidly for fall, we hope to bring lots of fresh new talent for Paul and Shelli to showcase.”
When choosing songs for the set lists, the most important thing to Nightshade as a group, however, is answering the questions “What songs do people like?” and “What makes them want to dance?” Interestingly enough, what they’ve found is that often those songs are the ones that weren’t always the biggest hits.
With an extensive list of classic, retro rock covering the 1960s through to today, there’s bound to be something for everyone. Throw in some groovin’ blues and an original or two and you have the makings of a highly entertaining evening.
Come on out and grab a refreshing beverage (this is a licensed event, so no minors) and claim your share of the dance floor!
Tickets are $12 in advance at the Snoring Sasquatch, Kingfisher Used Books and Black Bear Books, and $15 at the door, which opens at 7, the dance begins at 8.
