Ninjaspy release new album with show in Maple Ridge

Ninjaspy will be playing at The Wolf Bar on April 28.

The progressive metal band Ninjaspy is set to release their new album Spüken with a show at The Wolf Bar on April 28.

The three-piece band features a unique dynamic: they’re all brothers.

More than a decade in, Joel, Adam and Tim Parent, from Port Coquitlam, are still more motivated than ever to tour and record new music together.

This is their first release in a while, but the drive to keep creating more tunes is evident, even if it comes few and far between.

“We spent so much time playing the music we’ve had that our writing process is generally really slow,” said Joel, the lead singer.

“You don’t really get a year-by-year look at how it’s evolving, but a lot of the stuff was originally written quite a long time ago,” he said.

The group started playing together back in 1999 when they were teenagers.

Now they’re about to embark on another cross-country tour, with Maple Ridge being one of their first shows.

They’ve been branching out in different genres, something they hope fans hear with the release of Spuken.

“We definitely made an effort to be more cohesive stylistically,” Joel continued.

“There’s still a lot going on with different genres but I think song-to-song you do end up with a bit of a roller coaster,” he said.

“But the way we execute it is a lot smoother.”

You can catch Ninjaspy with guests at 7 PM on Saturday, April 28 at The Wolf Bar. Tickets are $7 at the door.
