Nominations open for Oak Bay’s Acorn Arts Awards

Deadline Jan. 19, 2018 for groups, individuals or businesses supporting the arts in Oak Bay

Nominations are open for the second Oak Bay Acorn Arts Award.

Oak Bay’s Acorn Arts Award is an honorary artistic achievement award that recognizes a living individual, group, institution who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to, and significant impact on the arts in Oak Bay.

The award was created last year to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding artistic merit or outstanding arts contributions in Oak Bay; enhance awareness of the arts and the role they play in nourishing Oak Bay’s economic, social and emotional well-being; and to acknowledge persons who have contributed to an enlivened, healthy, and meaningful community.

Arts can include, but are not limited to: visual arts, craft, design, film, new media, music, dance, writing, public art, theatre arts, philanthropy, business supporting the arts, volunteerism in the arts, culinary arts, landscape art, or architecture.

The inaugural award was issued to renowned Oak Bay artist Pat Martin Bates in March.

The award is administered by Oak Bay and its department of Parks, Recreation and Culture. It is adjudicated by the Oak Bay Arts Laureate, Barbara Adams, and the Public Art Committee. The award has no monetary value. The honoree receives a bespoke acorn keepsake and will be publicly recognized for their achievement. The Acorn Arts Award is only awarded when a suitable candidate is identified.

Nominations need three supporting letters of reference with the online (visit oakbay.ca/explore-oak-bay/arts-culture/acorn-arts-award) nomination form and can include up to four pages of supporting materials. Hard copy nomination packages are available at any Oak Bay recreation centre and can be mailed to: ArtsAlive Acorn Arts Award Committee, attention: Arts & Culture Programmer, Recreation Oak Bay, 1975 Bee St, Victoria, BC V8R 5E6.

Nominations are open now through Jan. 19, 2018.
