November’s the month to take up art

With a wide variety of adult classes available, there’s something for everyone

The Campbell River Art Gallery is gearing up for a busy November. With a wide variety of adult classes available, there’s something for everyone!

Illustration with Sandra Lamb is slated for Fridays in November, running from Nov. 2 to Nov. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. each session. Lamb is a longtime Gallery instructor and well-known artist, and she’ll be helping participants hone their basic drawing skills. Now’s the time to dig up that funny poem, family anecdote or languishing children’s’ book that you put away ages ago. Lamb will share basic cartooning skills as well as practical ideas for combining text and illustration. The cost for the course is $112.50 plus HST for Gallery members and $122.50 plus HST for non-members.

Drawing is the cornerstone of all the visual arts, so the Gallery is also offering a weekend  ‘Drawing Boot Camp for All Ages,’ with Powell River artist Rick Cepella, on Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. This weekend workshop will focus on the fundamentals of drawing as well as provide insight into how practicing artists use this invaluable skill in their daily routines. Painters will especially find this informative and inspiring. All ages and skill levels are welcome. The cost is $184 plus HST for Gallery members and $194 plus HST for non-members.

Jewelry fans will love the Bracelet Beading Workshop with Barbara Goertz, set for two Thursdays, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students in the two-part class will learn and practice a beaded herringbone stitch and then create a personalized bracelet. A list of supplies will be available and class members will have the option of purchasing them from local resources or buying them from their instructor at the first class. The cost for the workshop is $36 plus HST for Gallery members and $46 plus HST for non-members.

November wraps up with Floral Watercolour Painting with artist Caren Heine, set for two Wednesdays, Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Heine is a renowned floral watercolourist, one of Canada’s most esteemed botanical artists and will teach her students the secrets of colour and brushwork techniques to create magnificent floral paintings or to incorporate the painting style into future works.
