Nuns funning in Sister Act

A new play stages a version of the Whoopi Goldberg movie.

The Poppy Players are taking the audience for their next production to a convent.

The theatre group at D.W. Poppy Secondary is staging Sister Act.

The musical is based on the 1992 film about a disco diva who witnesses a murder. She hides out in a convent to evade mobsters. Her fish-out-of-water presence in a convent makes for comedy and interesting interactions, breathing new life into the nuns.

The play runs until March 4. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for students and seniors. They can be purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.com. The shows are at the school, 23752 52nd Ave., starting at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
