What are the signs that you look for?
For some, it’s the beautiful lights on houses, lawns and lining the streets of our community. Maybe it’s the festive displays in store windows. For others, it might be greetings arriving from relatives and friends across the globe. For many in the Comox Valley, a true sign of the season is the news that The Nutcracker is once again coming alive on stage at the Sid Williams Theatre.
Well, that sign is about to appear as the Laurie Tinkler School of Dance prepares to present The Nutcracker on Dec. 13 and 14 at the Sid. This season will see the production return to a traditional presentation of this holiday ballet treat.
Audience members of all ages will be charmed to see this adapted version featuring many favoured scenes including the Christmas Eve party at the home of young Clara and her brother Fritz. Join in their delight as they open their wonderful Christmas presents – including the fantastic Nutcracker! Accompany Clara into her mythical dream as she watches the battle between the Prince and the Rat King. Be spirited away with her to the Land of Snow and on to the Land of Sweets. Here, you will be charmed by dancing candy canes and gumdrops and enchanted by dancers from foreign lands. To end the show, the Sugar Plum Fairy will glide onto the stage and is sure to captivate one and all.
There will be an evening performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, and a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. This show is sure to lift you into the spirit of Christmas. At one hour and 45 minutes with an intermission, it is the perfect length for most audience members.
Tickets are now on sale at the Sid Williams box office. Adults $19.50, students, $16.50 and children 6 and under $5.50.
