After over 35 years circling the globe, The Nylons have decided to finally close the touring chapter of their illustrious and legendary career as recording and performing artists.
The group has embarked on a series of “farewell shows” to say goodbye to their dedicated fans who embraced and supported them over the years.
With seven gold and platinum recordings, this four-member vocal group is one of Canada’s top international success stories. The group has performed over 1,000 concerts in dozens of tours worldwide, including Japan, Korea, China, Australia, Europe, Brazil, the United States and Canada.
From their formation in the back of a delicatessen in Toronto in the late 1970s to headlining at Carnegie Hall, The Nylons have a storied history. Their first album went gold in only two months and eventually went on to become a Canadian platinum seller with big hits ‘Up The Ladder To The Roof’ and ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight.’
The second album, One Size Fits All, became the foundation for their increasing fan base in the United States, leading to constant touring on both sides of the border.
The Nylons have received numerous awards and accolades including their gold and platinum records, a Tokyo Music Festival award, and a Canadian Juno.
Nylons’ music has been used in feature films including Made in Heaven, their recordings have been played to the astronauts on the NASA Space Shuttle, and they’ve performed on hit talk television series like The Tonight Show and Good Morning America.
The Nylons are renowned for their vibrant live shows, featuring dazzling harmonies, smooth arrangements, tight choreography, and fabulous showmanship. Their rapport with their audiences makes them perennial favourites for all age groups.
With a legacy of albums, international acclaim, and fan-favourite recorded hits, The Nylons are truly a group that Canadians fell in love to (and with), delivering a show that the entire family can enjoy.
“We are looking forward to the upcoming Farewell Shows… we are going to make the most of it,” founding member Claude Morrison said. “It will be a celebration and we will go out with a bang! These shows will be an expression of our gratitude to both the music and our fans.”
In addition to Morrison (tenor), current Nylons members are Garth Mosbaugh (tenor/baritone), Gavin Hope (baritone/tenor/bass) and Tyrone Gabriel (bass/baritone).
After The Nylons’ Farewell Tour touches down in Chilliwack, the group will continue to tour North America through 2016 and onto Holland in early 2017, performing in cities which reflect the places that have always meant something to the group and where they can reach the most fans.
Although the group is coming off the road, they are not disbanding and will continue to work on special music projects.
