This weekend, the Okanagan Falls Legion is holding a Raise the Roof fundraiser, not for themselves, but to help another community group along with their project.
“We now and again hold benefits for the community. It’s part of our community work,” said Legion member Barbara Few. “This one is to help the OK Falls Women’s Institute raising funds for a bandshell.”
The bandshell is going to be sited in the Centennial Park, the scene of many community events and concerts over the years. Adding a bandshell will make it that much more accessible, according to Few.
“School presentations can be made their, outdoors in the summer, concerts, little plays, churches can even use it,” she said.
Few isn’t sure what the ultimate total needed for the bandshell is, but the Legion is hoping their event will add another $3,000 to $5,000 to what the Women’s Institute already has.
“They have raised about $20,000 so far already, with the community and some grants. We’re helping them finish their fundraising so they can get ahead and build it,” said Few.
The benefit starts at noon on March 2 at the Okanagan Falls Legion. A long list of performers have volunteered their time, including Shindigger, Rusty Copeland, Terri Bremner, Just Joe, Roland Allen, Cindy Doucette, Mikie Spillett and Ken Repbow as well as the the Precious Singers.
There will also be food on hand, 50/50 draws, and a silent auction.
