How well do you know White Rock history?
Local residents have a second chance to test their knowledge at home with a second edition of White Rock Museum and Archives’ online White Rock History Quiz launched on YouTube Nov. 18.
Hosted and compiled by archives manager Hugh Ellenwood, the 10-question quiz spans a time-frame from 1888 to the 2000s.
The video, running just over 16 minutes, features some well-known aspects of city history – but also throws in a few curveballs relating to lesser-known facts, including some darker and more controversial parts of the community’s past.
Funded in part by a city arts and culture grant, the video was prepared with technical and production assistance from Mark Roland Henning of Boutique Empire Studios.
A media release noted that the quiz is part of the museum’s policy of outreach and engagement with the White Rock community, and particularly in addressing the pandemic-time “challenges of closure and distancing.”
“We wanted to offer people something fun to watch during the pandemic,” Ellenwood said.
“We’ve had a lot of fun making these videos and look forward to making more of them.”
More quizzes are currently in development, along with a video adaptation of Ellenwood’s popular historical walking tours.
