Over the Rainbow over the moon

Eclectica Community Choir of 100 Mile House wound up its season with a heavenly benefit spring concert

Eclectica Community Choir of 100 Mile House wound up its season with a heavenly benefit spring concert at Martin Exeter Hall on May 27.

The choir is directed by Jasmine Kreschuk, with accompanist Donna Forward.

This choir has made a practice of donating 100 per cent of its gate receipts to charitable causes in the community. On this occasion, the recipient of the concert funds was the 100 Mile District General Hospital Auxiliary.

Over the years, this auxiliary has purchased items that often are not covered by government grants or general operating funds.

With the increasing number of seniors in our community, auxiliary spokesperson Yvonne Craig says they are relying more and more every year on the services provided by the local hospital.

“In the past, the auxiliary has helped pay for such things as X-ray and cancer-treating equipment, as well as items that help make the hospital experience more comfortable for patients.”

Sunday’s spring concert used the theme, Over the Rainbow.  It included a rainbow of music of diverse eras and styles, from pop to Mozart, as well as solos and ensembles from individuals and groups from within the choir.

Guest performers included Brian Beattie on trumpet accompanied by Daven Mapson on the mammoth Martin Exeter organ, performed the well-known and stirring “Trumpet Voluntary” by Jeremiah Clarke.

“I have always wanted to play with the organ,” says Beattie. “ I had to come to 100 Mile to do so.”

Eclectica will also open the July 1 events at 108 Heritage Site for this year’s Canada Day.

New members are welcome for next season’s activities, which start in September. Folks who would like more information can phone Helen Lennox-Lau at 250-791-5303, or Dennis at 250-456-2302.
