The site that many are hoping will be the home of the Penmar Community Arts Theatre is looking a little different.

Volunteers and Penmar Community Arts Society members took their paint brushes to the streets to raise awareness of the latest crowdfunding campaign to “open the doors.”

Over $16,000 has been raised towards the goal of the $165,000 needed to get a metaphorical foot in the door.

A crucial step that will get the ball rolling for the proposed theatre.

“There’s a line up of people wanting to book this. Dance schools, music recital people and so on. Once we can open the doors, then we have access to other committed funding,” Carol Munro, a volunteer and Penmar Community Arts Society member who was joined by her fellow painters on March 9.

The tulips Munro and others painted were to make a visual impact on those passing by ensuring that the project is still afloat and creating some awareness in the community.

“So people walking by or driving by will say ‘hey, it’s changed.’ A lot of people think this is dead in the water or ‘what’s the Penmar thing anyway, didn’t it fail.’ The answer is no to all of those, it’s just been out of sight for a while,”  Munro said. “People have seen these boards pretty much the same for the last couple of years. So what we’re doing is making it look different so people can see that something is happening. These are all volunteers and they are all keen on getting this thing open. ”
