Take two singer-songwriters, one who reportedly plays accordion better than the other, and send them on a cross-Canada tour in the dead of winter.
Dan Whitehouse and Anja McCloskey touch down in Chilliwack at Bozzini’s on Jan. 24.
The pair have written and recorded a joint EP, Still, which will be released on UK indie label Sotones Records this week.
They are actually kicking off their tour in Chilliwack before heading through the Rocky Mountains.
“We are really excited about going on the road in Canada in winter time,” says Anja McCloskey. “In fact, I couldn’t think of a more beautiful time of year to explore this part of the world and begin this new musical collaboration.”
The pair first met at London Regent’s Park Zoo in 2002, introduced to each other by John Peel favourite and legendary UK indie singer-‐songwriter Helen McCookerybook – while Dan was playing rather rudimentary accordion to the animals as part of a school songwriting project. Anja lambasted Dan for his clumsy accordion chops, and a friendship was born. They stayed in touch and whenever they met would talk longingly about collaborating together, but it was not until the autumn of 2013 they finally started writing music together.
