Semiahmoo Peninsula artist Audrey Bakewell has received best of show honours for a painting in the current Just Surrey Exhibition.
Arts Council of Surrey president Carol Girardi recently congratulated Bakewell on behalf of the council, the Just Surrey Exhibition Committee, and the ACS Gallery at the Newton Cultural Centre, where the show is currently on display.
Bakewell’s first place result recognizes her watercolour Dancing In The Wind At Blackie Spit.
Painted on location, the work was created during one of the South Surrey White Rock Art Society’s regular Tuesday plein air sessions, held at various locations in Surrey throughout the summer.
Second place went to Surrey in Quartz by Melissa Peacock, while third place was claimed by Feels Like Fall by Sharmini Paranavitana.
Honourable mentions went to Surrey Lake at Twilight by Nancy Wright, Surrey Lake by Joanne Dennis and Newton Plaza by Gail Biddle. All of the honoured artists are profiled in the current ‘meet the winners’ feature on the arts council website (artscouncilofsurrey.ca).
