Country Music Television was in Penticton on Tuesday filming a segment for the Coors Banquet contest One Horse Town.
Entries have been pouring in for a chance for your one Canadian town to host country music stars Darius Rucker, Jon Pardi, Jess Moskaluke and the James Barker Band for a giant concert.
Last year Dean Brody, Chad Brownlee and the River Town Saints treated the winner Truro, Nova Scotia to the biggest concert that town has ever seen. This year’s version of One Horse Town promises to be a legendary country music concert.
Rucker is a Billboard chart topping artist that was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2012. His version of the song Wagon Wheel won him the Grammy award for Best Country Solo Performance. Pardi established himself as old-school flare with a mainstream sound in his 2014 debut, Write You a Song, a rough-and-rowdy project that made him familiar to the suddenly-hip country crowd, thanks to his Top 10 party song Up All Night. He is the 2017 American Country Music new male vocalist award winner. The first female country solo artist since Shania Twain to achieve platinum single status with her track Cheap Wine and Cigarettes, Moskaluke continues to rock the radio airwaves. Moskaluke is the three time CCMA female artist of the year and a 2017 Juno award winner. The James Barker Band’s stock continues to rise as they open for Dean Brody on his Beautiful Freak Show Tour 2017. Their debut EP, Game On, is now available everywhere.
“I’m honoured and truly excited to be able to share the stage with Darius Rucker, Jon Pardi, and James Barker Band,” said Moskaluke, who is from Langenburg, Saskatchewan, a town of 1,048 people. “I’m from a small town and love the message behind the contest, embracing where you’re from and your community.”
Joel Stewart, executive producer at CMT said they are receiving a lot of entries from Penticton so they decided to choose the city as one of the videos promoting the contest.
The first step in the contest is to submit a photo or video of life around your small town through Twitter or Instagram before May 28 using #OneHorseTown along with the name and province of your town. Photos can also be submitted online here.
Six nominated towns will be selected as finalists and then Canadians will be invited to vote for their favourite small town finalist, with the results determining who will host the big country concert.
