Sayuri Kubota is romancing her audience with the touch of a key.
The pianist is holding a recital Saturday (Oct. 27) to perform pieces from the Romantic Era including Schubert, Brahms and Chopin.
Kubota began taking piano lessons when she was four and wanted to become a professional pianist.
However, life took her on a different path and she became a mathematics teacher instead. Yet, piano playing remained in her life – a hobby she practiced when she had time.
She began taking lessons again. For the past seven and a half years she has been training with Teresa Marusarz-Borek.
Kubota will perform four impromptus by Franz Schubert, two rhapsodies by Brahms, and Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise by Chopin.
The recital starts at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 4235 Departure Bay Rd.
Admission is by donation. Proceeds go to the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music.
