Young musicians from Surrey School District and beyond showcased their talents once again at The Envision Jazz Festival, which returned to the Sheraton Guildford Hotel, Feb. 10-12.

Semiahmoo Secondary’s Grade 10 band was named best junior band at the festival, while the best senior band honours were claimed by Kwalikum Secondary from Qualicum Beach.

Now in its 29th year, the festival, originally the Surrey Jazz Festival, draws bands and combos from both the school district, the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

Evening performances, at the Bell Centre for the Performing Arts, featured winning bands and combos as well as professionals the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir, Chris Gestrin’s Night Crawlers and the Campbell Ryga Quintet.

Ryga also directed a senior rep band of outstanding senior musicians from participating schools.
