Play tackles the issue of dementia

Victoria Target Theatre Society performs I'm Still Here at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Saanich

A play aimed at promoting understanding and education about dementia will take the stage at a Saanich church this month.

I’m Still Here will be presented by the Victoria Target Theatre Society at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 3787 Cedar Hill Rd. The 45-minute play aims to diminish unnecessary suffering due to misunderstanding and stigma about persons suffering from dementia and their families.

Target uses theatre to address seniors’ issues as it stimulates and moves people in a way that is different from ideas learned through lectures or books.

Following the play, there will be a coffee and cookie break, after which a panel of experts will discuss dementia and the audience will have a chance to ask questions about the impact of the disease.

The church is handicapped accessible and admission is by donation, with proceeds going to the Shelbourne Community Kitchen. The presentation is jointly sponsored by The Elder Friendly Community Network, Lutheran Church of the Cross and the Victoria Target Theatre Society.
