A well-known Polish poet will perform in Greater Victoria next week beginning with a reading at Open Space (510 Fort St.) in partnership with the University of Victoria.
Poet, critic and translator Tomasz Rózycki will join Victoria writer Tim Lilburn at Open Space on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
“Tomasz is one of the most talented and celebrated younger poets in Europe,” said Danielle Janess, co-organizer and fine arts masters student. “His visit here is unique in the amount of collaboration that has gone into it.”
The Writing and Germanic and Slavic studies departments worked with Open Space Gallery and the Polish White Eagle Society for Rózycki’s visit, Janess said. Rózycki lives in the Silesian city of Opole in southwestern Poland and has published nine books since the mid-1990s. Two of his books were nominated for Poland’s most prestigious literary award, the NIKE. Other awards include the Josif Brodski Prize, the Czechowicz Poetry Prize, the Rainer Maria Rilke Prize and the 3 Quarks Daily Prize in Arts and Literature (2010).
Rózycki will also present a public talk at the University on Feb. 20, at 3 p.m, in Room 103 at the Fine Arts Building.
The title of the talk is, “To Write A Poem After the End of the World.”
