Presenters discuss ecological reserves

A variety of arts and culture events and activities are planned in Summerland and the rest of the South Okanagan.

Join the Okanagan Similkameen Parts Society and Discover Our Ecological Reserves with special guests presenter: Wardens Don Gilles, Laurie Rockwell, Eva Durance at Centre Stage Theatre, Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m. All welcome, refreshments, no charge, donations welcome.

Ballet show

Ballet Kelowna presents A Grand Passion at Centre Stage Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Tickets at the Summerland Visitor Centre and Indulgences on Henry Ave. Visit balletkelowna.ca for more details.

Dance time

The band New Vintage will be playing Saturday, April 14 at the Summerland Legion when the Friday Night Dance Club holds its monthly dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Phone 250-494-1804.

For children

The next Children’s Showcase production is this Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. at Centre Stage Theatre.

Jazz vespers

Jazz vespers Sunday, April 15 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church in Penticton. Enjoy the music of Mel Zachary on piano, Phil d’Aoust on bass, Bill McAvoy on drums and Larry Crawford on woodwinds.

Discussing food

Andrea Gunne will be speaking about local food security at the April 18 Philosophers’ Café at the Summerland Art Gallery at 7 p.m.

Earth Week

Other Earth Week activities include the documentary film, The Future of Food at Centre Stage Theatre on April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The Silent Invasion will be shown at Centre Stage Theatre on Thursday, April 19 at 6:30 pm. This award winning film details the destruction of our most precious places when strange, non-native plants and animals arrive. A discussion after the film will explore ways we can protect the Okanagan Valley against invasive species.

There will be a reading of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax outside the Summerland Library on April 21 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

And the Summerland Library will be presenting Wild and Wonderful an Earth Day Storytime at the Summerland Library on April 21 at 2 p.m. as part of this year’s Earth Week activities.

There will be an Imagination Station for kids at the Summerland Art Gallery Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m.

There will be an Earth Week Street Festival on Main Street on Friday, April 20 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Film series

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen will be shown April 19 at 4pm and 7pm at the Pen Mar Cinema as part of the Kitchen Stove Film series.
