Pressure is on for film fest

Festival to reel in filmmakers with 48-hour contest in Penticton

It won’t be as simple as lights, camera, action for those participating in the Snakebite Film Festival.

The pressure will be turned up as teams write, shoot and edit a short film all within 48 hours.

Up for grabs are a $500 prize and bragging rights for the winner of the film contest, which is part of the Arts Rising Festival held in late September in Penticton.

Several teams have registered so far, but there’s room for more. Registration closes Friday, August 11 at 8 p.m. A $50 registration fee is required and can be dropped off at the Leir House (220 Manor Park Ave.) or paid online.

All skill levels and ages are welcome to participate.

Teams of one to 15 members are tasked with creating a short film through all stages of production in a 48-hour time period starting 7 p.m. Friday, August 18 and ending 7 p.m. August 20.

A launch event will be held on Aug. 18 at the Leir House starting at 5:30 p.m. While there teams will draw genres from a hat and receive a line that must be said and a prop used on screen in the short film.

The short must be at least three minutes long and can run up to seven minutes in duration.

The contest is open to all ages and skill level.

Films will be screened at Landmark Cinemas as part of Snakebite Film Festival, which runs from September 21 to 24.
