SURREY — A music-education charity will benefit from special screenings of “Purple Rain” at dozens of theatres across Canada, including the Cineplex Odeon Strawberry Hill Cinemas in Surrey.

The 1984 musical stars Prince, the Minnesota-based pop star who died suddenly last week.

In tribute to the musician, screenings of Purple Rain will take place Monday, May 2.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. showing are now on sale for $6.99.

Cineplex Events will donate $1 from every ticket sold to MusiCounts, a music-education organization associated with The Canadian Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences (CARAS).

The film will screen at 54 Cineplex locations across Canada. Click here to view the complete list. To buy tickets online, click here.

“Bringing ‘Purple Rain back to the big screen is a perfect way to honour the life of Prince,” stated Brad LaDouceur, a VP with Cineplex Entertainment. “This special screening will allow fans to celebrate the artistry of Prince together as a community.”

“Purple Rain” stars Prince as a young musician who must contend with a rival singer, a burgeoning romance and his own dissatisfied band as his star begins to rise.

The movie theatre at Strawberry Hill is located at 12161 72 Ave., Surrey.
