Purcell Mountain Orchestra

The Purcell Mountain Orchestra has started their fall term rehearsing a fresh and exciting repertoire to be performed at their annual Christmas Concert. Under the musical direction of Jackie Ohnander the members are looking forward to performing for the Golden community on December 15 at the Baptist Church.
Jackie is a BC registered music teacher who teaches private piano and Music for Young Children classes in Golden.
She received her Bachelor of Music degree majoring in Piano Performance and has completed her ARCT with the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Jackie commented, “It is a great opportunity to be able to conduct and work with the members of the Orchestra
Be sure to bring your friends and family to the concert as we will have Audience Carol, singing along with some wonderful orchestra pieces featuring a wide variety of instruments.”
The group will also be lead by Dana Hudson as guest conductor for part of the performance.
Sadly the ensemble had to say good-bye to some of their long standing musicians, but was also able to recruit new members during recent months.
The 25 member strong orchestra represents a cross section of Goldenites; from high-school students to seniors, all age groups are represented. Jackie Ohnander, Musical Director and Barbara Ulrich, Communications/Marketing Manager for the Purcell Mountain Orchestra, have been looking into the possibility of “taking the PMO on the Road” and travelling with the orchestra to neighboring communities in the Columbia Valley, where they will host concerts as early as Spring 2012.
“We have a strong following and lots to offer. Hopefully this will act as an incentive to attract new members and strengthen our group.” Barbara comments.
