Rupertites will be able to walk down memory lane in April when the Regional Heritage Fair is hosted for the first time at the Lester Centre of the Arts.
“It’s centrally located, but it also gives the public an opportunity to come see the hard work of our junior historians,” Laurie Davie said.
David is the manager of the North Pacific Cannery, which was the previous host of the fair. One hundred projects exploring the heritage of students from Prince Rupert, Port Edward, Terrace, Kitimat and neighbouring areas will be judged on April 27 and showcased to the public on April 28.

“I think it’s a really good networking opportunity for the children and for the teachers and the parents since it’s all northern BC,” Davie said. “They all see all the different projects, and there’s a huge scope of what that could possibly be. They get to appreciate the hard work, and there’s an opportunity for the winner to go to the provincial heritage fair.”
Teachers need to register their classes online at nwheritagefair.ca before Feb. 28, which will secure bus transportation and overnight accommodation for students coming from out of town.
Students will still have an opportunity to visit the North Pacific Cannery for a field trip and tour of the newly restored national heritage site. Workshops will also be offered.
