Music, laughter and groove come to Fanny Bay Hall on June 4 when award-winning Pied Pumkin singer/songwriter Rick Scott and his Appalachian mountain dulcimer perform two shows at Fanny Bay Hall: a 3 p.m. family matinee and a 7 p.m. “Concert for Big Folks.”
Rick is his own genre: rooted in folk and blues and inspired by Broadway musicals, Pete Seeger and Danny Kaye. Over the span of 40 years he has released 18 recordings and performed his lively mix of music, storytelling and humour in nine countries.
He’s a three-time Juno nominee and winner of Canadian Folk Music, Family Choice and Parent’s Choice Awards. He’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Down Syndrome Research Foundation and curator of the Protection Island Museum.
“For those of you who think Rick’s only a children’s performer, you’re in for a grand surprise!” said Pat Buckna, Home Routes, Powell River. “He’s a brilliant storyteller, actor, songwriter and master of the dulcimer whose decades of experience are woven into every minute of his performance. You’ll tap your feet, sing along and fall off your chair laughing. First time we’ve ever had a standing ovation at one of our house concerts. Don’t miss out!”
Admission for the matinée is $5 child/$10 adult/$25 family of four. The adult evening show is $15 general admission.
Tickets at Laughing Oyster Books, Courtenay; Weinberg’s Good Foods, Buckley Bay; Salish Sea Market, Bowser.
