Aspiring amateur musicians have the opportunity to earn the experience of a lifetime, the chance to open for Sam Hunt at the Merrit Rockin’ River Fest, which runs July 28 to 31.
In Salmon Arm, the contest is held at Off The Beat Pub and Lounge. Contestants sing live every Friday night until June 10.
The contest is for solo vocalists only. They cannot be accompanied by a band or additional vocalists, but can use an instrument or backing track.
At the local level, contestants will perform two songs, either covers or originals in any genre except rap or hip hop. Songs for the provincial finals and performance at the festival must be country, country rock or classic rock.
Contestants can pre-register at roadtoriverfest.com or at the venue. There is a $20 entry fee and a limit of 10 contestants per night.
One local winner will be picked in Salmon Arm and the other seven communities across the province that are holding competitions.
