Rocker hosts intimate show in Nanaimo

NANAIMO - Bif Naked performs acoustic versions of her song and shares stories from her memoir at the Queen's Tuesday (May 10).

Bif Naked hosts an intimate evening of acoustic music and storytelling at the Queen’s Tuesday (May 10).

The singer-songwriter, born Beth Torbert, recently released her memoir, I Bificus.

She started writing the book at the behest of her manager. She said he “badgered” her until she gave in.

“They felt it was a good time to write it. I felt it was too early in my life to write my memoirs,” she said.

The memoir was compiled while she struggled with health and personal issues. She underwent heart surgery, shortly after being diagnosed with and beating breast cancer, was going through a divorce and mourning the passing of her two dogs. Despite it all she still found time to write.

Bif Naked interviewed her parents for the book. They were involved in the civil rights movements in America.

“That has a lot to do with who I am today,” she said.

She’s glad to be back in Nanaimo performing at the Queen’s.

“I love playing the Queen’s. I have been playing there since I was 19 years old,” she said. “It’s going to be intimate and wonderful.”

Bif Naked performs during her I, Bificus Songs and Stories Tour on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $28 and are available in advance from the Queen’s, Fascinating Rhythm, Arbutus Music and www.ticketweb.ca. Tickets will cost $30 at the door.
