The Cowichan Symphony Society kicks off its 61st season on Friday, Sept. 23, with a concert of ‘Scheherazade’ and Rachmaninoff at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Society spokesperson Ted Rhodes is excited about the event.

“Take a seductive journey through the Arabian Nights with Rimsky-Korsakov’s brilliant story for orchestra, ‘Sheherezade’. This symphonic tour-de-force featuring the Victoria Symphony conducted by Tania Miller, will jump off the stage with its exciting rhythms and luscious melodies,” he says.

Also on this programme, famous Russian pianist, Krzysztof Jablonski, joins Miller on stage to play Rachmaninoff’s ‘Piano Concerto No 1’.

Krzystof is Laureate of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw and is also a professor of music at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Tickets are available at cowichanpac.ca or by calling the Cowichan Ticket Centre at 250-748-7529.

Single performance tickets are $42 for adults or $25 for the front rows. All students can get in for $5 apiece.

In addition, tickets for the whole five-concert symphony season are now available through the ticket centre as well.
