The Monashee Arts Council has a festive, family-oriented evening of fun planned Saturday when the Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble performs at the White Valley Community Centre in Lumby.
The Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Vernon has been entertaining residents of the Okanagan for 15 years.
Sadok translates to “orchard” and since the ensemble’s successful start, they have continued to spark audiences with colourful and entertaining performances wrapped in a lovely tapestry of their traditional Ukrainian-Canadian heritage, said Jennifer Greenwood, arts and culture program coordinator with the Monashee Arts Council.
“With Sadok there is excitement, colour and wonderful Ukrainian-Canadian spirit.”
Under the artistic direction of Andrea Malysh, Sadok’s performances have carried them throughout B.C., Alberta and to Disneyland, California. Their travels have taken them all the way to Ukraine twice, once in 2006 and more recently in July of this year.
Sadok will begin their program with the traditional welcome dance, where many regions of Ukraine will be displayed. The dancers will offer the staples of Ukraine —bread, salt and wheat— to wish everyone health and prosperity.
Tickets are $7 per person or $20 for a family of four, available at the Monashee Arts Council office, located at the Village Gallery, 1961 Vernon St., Lumby and at the door on the evening of the event.
