SAGA Public Art Gallery is pleased to present “Pedal Power,” a multi-media exhibition about the bicycle as an agent of social change.
“Pedal Power” opens on Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m., with refreshments and live music by Seal Skull Hammer. The exhibition runs May 5 to 26.
Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11a.m. to 4 p.m.
There are three elements to this exhibition. It features bicycle drawings by 15 local artists accompanied by bicycle facts, a film by local cyclists that will get people moving, and interactive 3-D displays for visitors. The installation is sure to encourage viewers to think about the bicycle as not only a green mode of transportation, but as an invention that changed how we interact with each other and our environment.
Participate in community rides and safety workshop on offer during the Shuswap Bike Month held in conjunction with this exhibit.
Here in Salmon Arm, the steep hills, the bisecting highway and railroad, and dreams of a more extensive cycling and walking network, challenge the adoption of the bicycle as a more prominent mode of transportation.
Co-curator Louise Wallace-Richmond hopes to inspire visitors to embrace the bicycle as a cultural icon, work of art and means of freedom that deepen our relationships to one another and to our community at large.
