Salmon Arm photography exhibition focuses on history

SAGA Public Art Gallery's March show, "Icon: Post Office Library Art Gallery," opens tonight at 7.p.m with live music and refreshments.

SAGA Public Art Gallery presents “Icon: Post Office Library Art Gallery,” featuring a photographic history of the building, along with an evolving community story wall to which visitors can add their own memories. Opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, with live music and refreshments.

 

 

Equinox

The Northern Lights Chamber Choir presents Equinox, a concert of songs about spring and fall, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 2 and Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at St. Mary’s Church in Sorrento. Tickets at $15 are available at Acorn Music, or from choir members.

 

 

Live music

Jake Verburg and Arianne Charon perform live at 6 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Cantina Vallarta.

 

 

Shall we dance?

Dance to Latin music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Interior Dance Studio. Call 250-832-5306 for tickets, or pick them up at Hedi’s Wine Bistro on Alexander Street from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.

 

 

Film fest

The Shuswap Film Society’s International Film Festival closes Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. with The Woman on the 6th Floor, a French comedy. Meet in the lobby after the show for refreshments.

 

 

Hayride

Louisiana Hayride Live Radio Show rolls into the SASCU Rec Centre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, with 26 new songs. Tickets are available in Touch A Texas at the Mall at Piccadilly.

 

 

Hot time

City of Sparks, a local, four-piece band will heat up the Hideaway Pub Saturday, March 3.

 

 

Arts aware

SAGA Public Art Gallery and the Arts Council present a day of learning and celebration, with workshops beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 4 –  archiving photographs, art history, journaling and genealogy, all free to the community.

 

 

Hitchfest

Hailed as one of Alfred Hitchcock’s finest films, Vertigo will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 5 at the Salmar Classic. Tickets are available at the door – $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Lenten Journey

Gardening, Faith and Community presentation at First United Church at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 looks at the growing role of faith-based organizations in the sustainable agriculture movement.

 

 

SAGA jazz

If jazz is your bag, get over to SAGA Public Art Gallery Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m.

Eric St. Laurent, winner of the SOCAN award for Best Original Composition at the Montréal Jazz Festival and The Best Band Award at the Vienne (France) Jazz Festival, is coming back to Salmon Arm to perform with bassist  Jordan O’Connor and percussionist Michel DeQuevedo – also excellent musicians.
