Seaton goes sonic for Charity:Water

Five local acts to play inaugural festival hosted by Seaton Rotary at W.L. Seaton Secondary School Thursday, May 5.

W.L. Seaton Secondary is about to become the rock ‘n roll high school when the Seaton Rotary Club hosts its inaugural Sonic Sound Fest Thursday, May 5.

“We’re excited to bring something new to the outdated high school dance by introducing more of a festival style of event, open to the public,” said Bailey Morin, Seaton Rotary Club president.

Five local artists will perform, including band //AMISTAD//, who are currently in contention as a regional finalist in CBC Music’s Searchlight contest, as well as Jacob Soucy, Brainac, Shaughnessy Rose, and For The Kids.

“All are committed to enriching Vernon’s music scene and have graciously donated their time,” said Morin.

Seaton Rotary is donating the proceeds from the event to Charity: Water, which provides sustainable, clean drinking sources to communities in need  by installing locally run wells and pumps.

“What makes their organization unique is that once the well/pump that you’ve contributed to is complete, they send a tracking code so you can check it out on Google Earth to see exactly where your money has gone,” said Morin.

A short video about the project can be seen at  www.charitywater.org/whywater.

Doors to Sonic Fest open at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults, available at Ratio Coffee or email wlsrotaryaction@gmail.com.
