The next film to be shown by the Williams Lake Film Club deals with a subject matter all too familiar to more remote regions.
How can one attract good doctors into such regions?

Seducing Dr. Lewis will be screening this coming Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Gibraltar Room, Cariboo Memorial Complex.

Seducing Dr. Lewis is a film from Québec, French with English subtitles, directed by Jean-François Pouliot.
Please be advised that admission fees for high-school students and TRU students have been lowered to $6 to make it easier on them to also watch some of the great films shown by the club.
Seducing Dr. Lewis won the Award for Audience Favourite at Sundance Film Festival and it is easy to understand why. The tiny fishing community on the small island St. Marie-La-Mauderne is down on its luck.
The fishing industry has collapsed and the once proud and employed residents are now not so proud and unemployed.
What to do? Help comes in the form of a new factory which would locate on their island under one condition. They must have a resident doctor.
And thus the search begins — and the seduction of Dr. Lewis. How can these rustic, small town characters convince a cosmopolitan doctor that their isolated village is the ideal place to live.
They try — and they try. And what fun it is to watch them try.
The characters are finely drawn in their unique eccentricities and fit perfectly on this beautiful and remote little island.
By the way, the film was actually made in Harrington Harbour, an English speaking village, which was settled originally by people from Newfoundland.
And it was shot in only six weeks. That is probably the reason why they all look so very close and connected, they click.
This film has been called many things: smart, funny, a treasure, but I think the best is you make up your own mind.
