Serenity proud to make top ten

Serenity Performing Arts Center, a top-10 finalist in the contest for Small Business B.C.’s Successful You Awards – Best Concept category, did not make it into the top-five finals.

“I’m not disappointed at all,” said Serenity owner Shirley DeVooght. “It was an honor just to make it into the top 10. I’m not surprised we didn’t make it into the top five. B.C.’s got some outstanding businesses out there.”

Serenity is an outdoor music venue located between Birch Island and Vavenby on Lost Creek Road. Five concerts are held there during each of the summer months. The center started business in 2009.

The nomination quoted well-known musician Gary Fjellgaard as saying, “It was a privilege to be part of your Serenity Concert series. A beautiful setting on the river, with great sound, warm hospitality and a sensitive audience who really care about the music.”

The top-five in each of the four categories were announced Feb. 15. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on March 29 in Vancouver.

Meanwhile, DeVooght continues to prepare for the 2011 season at Serenity. First concert will be on May 28 and will feature Canadian Idol winner Theo Tams. Also on the card will be Kim McMechan and Duo #2.
