TheatreOne’s next Fringe Flick, Another Year, by acclaimed director Mike Leigh, is in the running for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Another Year is about a married couple who have managed to remain blissfully happy into their autumn years, and are surrounded over the course of the four seasons of one average year by friends, colleagues, and family who all seem to suffer some degree of unhappiness.
The film stars Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen and Lesley Manville.
Leigh sustained artistic quality over the years with features like Career Girls, Topsy-Turvy and Vera Drake.
Critics note the consistent themes throughout the films are the rounded depth of characters, snappy dialogue and nuanced performances by the cast.
The film screens Sunday (Feb. 20) at 1, 4 and 7 p.m., and Monday (Feb. 21) at 7 p.m. at Avalon Cinema.
