May 2 – Chilliwack country musician, Todd Richard, has recently been voted one of the top 25 artists in the Vancouver region for the CBC Spotlight contest. He performs tonight at Echo Room. Tickets are $10.

May 3 – Urban X Events presents Evening of Comedy at 9 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.) at the Coast Chilliwack Hotel.  The event will feature a whole new line up of Vancouver’s top stand up comedians. Tickets $20 in advance online at www.urbanxevents.com, or $25 at door. Ages 19+.

May 4 – Theatre Junkies Anonymous brings Alice in Wonderland to the Cultural Centre at 2 p.m. today. Tickets $10 and available at the Centre Box Office, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469) or online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca.

May 4 – Christ Lutheran Church choir presents An Afternoon in Song at 2:30 p.m. at the church (9460 Charles St.). In addition to choral music, the concert features counter tenor Shane Hanson as well as violin, organ and piano and other performers. Tickets $10 available at the door or call 604-858-4814. Children 12 and under are free.

May 6 to June 8 – The Chilliwack Visual Artists Association has its Celebration of the Arts show at the Royal Hotel from May 6 to June 8 where the lobby, café and homestead room will be transformed with a free art exhibition. Gallery hours are: Sundays to Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays to Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. From time to time, there will also be one or two ‘artists in residence’, sitting doing their artwork as you come in the door.

May 7 – The last film of the Chilliwack International Film Series is tonight at 7 p.m. at Cottonwood 4 Cinemas. Tickets $6 at the door. Tonight’s movie is Le Week-end; UK; English; 93 min.; 14A; comedy, drama.

Now to May 3 – The Chilliwack Players Guild presents Anne of Green Gables – The Musical April 24 to May 3 at the Cultural Centre. Tickets $30/adults and $25/seniors and students; tickets on family night (April 30) are $18 each. Tickets available at the Centre Box Office, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469) or online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca.

Now to May 10 – G.W. Graham theatre brings Bye Bye Birdie to the stage April 30 to May 10. The show runs Wednesdays to Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. There will also be a special by-donation preview on April 29 to benefit the Patrick O’Brien Scholarship. Tickets are $10/$15 and available at the school (45955 Thomas Rd.) and The Dogfather (9701 Menzies St.).

Now to June 7 – Art 33, the annual Chilliwack District 33 high school art exhibition, runs May 1 to June 7 at the Chilliwack Art Gallery in the Cultural Centre. The artwork is by G.W., Chilliwack and Sardis secondary’s Grade 10-12 students. Opening reception is set for Saturday, May 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. Gallery hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
