Sept. 7 – Where The Forest Songs Are 2013 takes place today at Island 22 Regional Park (45695 Cartmell Rd.) featuring local music including: Teen Daze, Oh No! Yoko, The Oh Wells, The Parish of Little Clifton, Derrival, Little Wild, Hrdwtr, Jordan Toohey, and Jason Ratzlaff and His Magnificent Guitar. Sept. 7 – The Chilliwack German Canadian Club is hosting its traditional ‘Schuetzenfest’ dinner and dance event at their new venue St. Thomas Hall (46048 Gore Ave.). Doors open at 5 p.m. Dinner at 6 p.m. and dancing starts at 8 p.m.). Tickets: $20 ($25 non-members) and include the ‘schlachteplatte’ (various assortment of meats) and are available at Vallee Sausage on Alexander Avenue, or at the door on Saturday. Sept. 12 to Oct. 26 – Earthscapes features work by two artists and is on display in the Art Gallery at the Cultural Centre Sept. 12 to Oct. 26. Debbie Weismiller is an abstract artist who is captivated by colour with all of its intensity, shades of warmth and coolness and of texture. Patricia Tessier works are photographs of floral studies and natural abstracts. Opening reception is Saturday, Sept. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. Gallery hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.

Now to Sept. 7 – The Chilliwack Visual Artists Association has its group show, Return to the Garden, on display in the Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre until Sept. 7. Gallery hours: Wednesdays to Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m., plus some evenings during show performances.

Now to Oct. 2 – The Eco Market runs every Wednesday evening (4 to 8 p.m.) at Sardis Park from now to Oct. 2. The market features local artists, live music, fresh food and more. The market’s juried artisans offer works in a variety of media including glass, textiles and fibre arts, wood, ceramics, jewelry, painting, drawing, photography, basketry, recycled and mixed media and metalwork. All work is handmade by the artist who is on site.

The Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society is in need of volunteers to help out with current and future art classes being offered at the Cultural Centre. For more info, call 604-391-SHOW (7469).
