Aug. 16 – Listen to live music while you go night sliding at Cultus Lake Water Park from 8 p.m. to midnight. The vent is hosted by Russ Rosen band with special guest Ezra Kwizera featuring Jordan Klassen. Cost: $18 (including tax). Book by calling 604-858-7241.

Aug. 16/17 – The Woody James Band is performing live at The Anavets (305-46268 Yale Rd.) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight playing classic rock plus songs off their four CDs.

Aug. 16/17 – Rhythm Street performs Friday and Saturday at the Royal Canadian Legion Vedder Golden Branch 280 (5661 Vedder Rd.).

Aug. 17/18 – The Chilliwack Players Guild will be having auditions for their fall show The Importance of Being Earnest on Aug. 18 and 19, at 7 p.m. Show dates are Oct. 17-26 with rehearsals starting on Sept. 2.  For more information, please contact Laura at l_hames@shaw.ca.

Aug. 18 – Sardis Community Church presents its first annual Frankie Banes in Concert event of contemporary and classical music at 7 p.m. Free admission.

Aug. 18 – The second annual Harrison Art Expo will be held on Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Harrison Hot Springs. Artist are invited to take a day away from the studio and bring their brushes to the beach. It’s a chance to enjoy a day of “plein air” painting while being surrounded by spectacular scenery. Artists are required to bring their own equipment, setup on grassed areas only, and make note that it can be windy. Those who participate are invited to setup to sell artwork and/or to paint, photograph and even just to network with fellow artists. There is no registration for this event. Organizers ask that people carpool, as parking is limited. There is also no admission fee.

Aug. 22 – It’s Cinema Under the Stars tonight at Watson Glen Park (beside Twin Rinks). Bring your blankets to watch a free outdoor movie starting at dusk on the three-storey tall big screen. The featured movie is The Croods, an animated film. Popcorn available by donation. Please leave pets at home.

Aug. 22 – Come take part in Light Up Cultus Lake, a light parade at Main Beach set against the beautiful background of Cultus Lake at dusk. You can bring your own lantern from home, or make one at the beach with provided materials. There will be a live DJ and a great atmosphere. The more people that show up, the more lanterns and light there will be.

Now to Aug. 21 – Music and More takes place every Wednesday at Salish Park. Children’s entertainment and activities are from 12:15 to 1 p.m., and the evening concerts are at 7 p.m. For more info, call the Chilliwack Library at 604-792-1941, or go to www.fvrl.bc.ca.

Now to Aug. 23 – Downtown Chilliwack’s popular Party in the Park is held every Friday night of the summer from July 5 to Aug. 23. Everything starts at 6 p.m. including live music, a family fun zone, and an expanded night market. The concerts take place at Central Community Park, and the vendors and family fun zone line the streets of Wellington Avenue, Mill Street, and Victoria Avenue.

Now to Aug. 30 – The Eco Market runs every Friday evening (5 to 9 p.m.) at Cultus Lake from July 5 to Aug. 30. The market is located at Main Beach beside parking lot B, and features local artists, live music, fresh food and more.

Now to Sept. 7 – The Chilliwack Visual Artists Association has its group show, Return to the Garden, on display in the Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre until Sept. 7. Gallery hours: Wednesdays to Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m., plus some evenings during show performances.

Now to Oct. 2 – The Eco Market runs every Wednesday evening (4 to 8 p.m.) at Sardis Park from now to Oct. 2. The market features local artists, live music, fresh food and more. The market’s juried artisans offer works in a variety of media including glass, textiles and fibre arts, wood, ceramics, jewelry, painting, drawing, photography, basketry, recycled and mixed media and metalwork. All work is handmade by the artist who is on site.

Now to April 2014 – The Good Life Concert Series and Open Bar to benefit the Fresh Air Fund runs on the first Saturday of every month until April 2, 2014 at the Coast Chilliwack Hotel. Tickets and more info at www.eventful.com.

Starting Aug. 12 – The Chilliwack and District Senior Resources Society has beginner’s line dancing classes for seniors every Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Evergreen Hall (9291 Corbould St.). Cost is $2.
