Now to Feb. 14 – The Chilliwack Visual Artists Association presents group show Newest and Best until Feb. 14 in the Art Gallery at the Cultural Centre. Free admission. Hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. and some show nights from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Now to Jan. 25 – Chilliwack School of Performing Arts brings The Addams Family to the Cultural Centre Jan. 14 to 25. Evening shows (Jan. 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24) are at 7:30 p.m. Matinees (Jan. 17, 18, 24, 25) are at 2 p.m. Tickets $15/students and seniors, $20/adults. Jan. 15 to Feb. 24 – Art show, Inspirations by Cree artist Jerry Whitehead, takes place Jan. 15 to Feb. 24, presented by the Chilliwack Community Arts Council and School District 33 Aboriginal Education Department. Opening reception is Friday, Jan. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Art Room (20-5725 Vedder Rd.). RSVP required, as space is limited. Meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, live music, and a no-host bar. Artwork will be available for purchase. Gallery hours are Mondays to Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to RSVP call 604-769-2787.

Jan. 16 – Art Battle comes to Chilliwack tonight where 12 local painters go head-to-head to create a piece of artwork in 20 minutes, and then the public gets to decide who the winner is. The audience then bids in silent auction to take the work home. Takes place at the Hampton Inn Chilliwack. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., painting starts at 7 p.m. Tickets $20 (general), $15 (early bird) and available at artbattle.ca/208-chilliwack.

Jan. 16/17 – The Vedder Golden Branch 280 has live entertainment every Friday and Saturday nights. This weekend it’s John Parsons.

Jan. 19 – The Chilliwack Players Guild will hold open auditions for its upcoming production of The Fox on The Fairway on Jan. 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. in the Guild Hall (southeast side of 45530 Spadina Ave.). The play is a riotous farce which tells the tale of two rival golf club presidents who enter into a large financial wager on a golf tournament between their respective clubs. The cast consists of three male and three female performers, with characters ranging roughly between early 20s to late 50s. The play will run April 23 to May 2 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.
