Malary’s Fashions’ second-annual luncheon fashion show will take place this Saturday, April 29, at the Vault Restaurant in downtown Cloverdale.
The “Shades of Blush” fashion show is a fundraiser for the Inn for Women boutique, a not-for-profit secondhand store that takes in and sells donated clothing and is run entirely by volunteers.
The Inn’s profits go towards helping women in the community, whether that means assisting women leave abusive relationships, helping women through losing a partner or stepping in to lend a hand when a medical emergency strikes.
“It’s very organic,” said owner Yvonne Hogenes. “People come through our doors, we build a relationship and find out what’s needed.”
“It’s a circle,” she said. “If we can keep women healthy and well, the whole environment around them prospers. Because if they’re not well, their kids are not well. If grandma’s not well, the family isn’t well.”
The luncheon show will be a fundraiser for the Inn, but also a way to raise awareness of the work that the volunteers do for the community.
Hogenes said that at least two women that the Inn is currently helping and partnering with will be interviewed at the show. “So everyone will get a chance to hear exactly what it is that we do,” she said. “We’ll be highlighting things we’ve been able to do in the community and hopefully building more alliances with likeminded community members that want to support local women.”
“At the end of the day, what we have is what we give,” said Hogenes. “One hundred per cent of what is donated goes back into the community.”
Tickets are $45 each, and $10 from each ticket goes directly to the Inn for Women Chic Second Hand Boutique, a not-for-profit shop that supports local women. The ticket includes a lunch, a glass of wine, opportunities to win door prizes and a “feast for the senses” fashion show.
The luncheon show will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, at the Vault Restaurant, 5764 176 St. For tickets, call Malary’s Fashion Network at 604-574-6402.
