National Theatre Live presents Shakespeare’s As You Like It, a comedy about love and change. The show is in HD on the big screen at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 7.
As You Like It tells the story of Rosalind (played by Rosalie Craig) who leaves behind her pampered life in her exiled father’s court, disguises herself as a boy, falls in love, and “experiences the liberating rush of transformation,” according to a press release from NT Live.
In this modern take by NT live, directed by Polly Findlay, the timeless masterpiece is brought to life with new twists.
“The setting will be contemporary,” says Findlay. “It opens in a modern office, very suffocating, no natural light, but then when we get into the forest of Arden, everything suddenly changes. We’re hoping there’ll be a real wow factor.”
It is “irresistibly funny” says The Sunday Times and according to Time Out “A stunning production, with the most spectacular scene change the National has housed in years”.
Tickets to As You Like It are $25.50 for adults, $22.75 for seniors and $17.50 for students and children, $5 for eyeGo. Tickets are available in person at the Cowichan Ticket Centre, 2687 James St., Duncan by phone 250-748-7529 or online at www.cowichanpac.ca.
