A Valentine concert in Parksville called She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not will put audience members in a thoughtful mood this weekend.

A Cappella Plus will perform the concert this Saturday and choir member Val Duthie said the songs, including both 16th century and modern day songs, will appeal to a wide range of people.

“That’s the nature of the Valentines songs,” she said, “some are sad, some are happy, and some are thoughtful.

“I think we’ve covered the lot.”

The choir will be led by director Rosemary Lindsay and will include a Monteverdi madrigal, Io Mi Son Giovinetta, where a young lady flirts with her lover’s feelings, a spiritual love song called Like a Child by Ellenberger, and a Celtic song dealing with loss of love in The Parting Glass.

The choir is holding a silent auction fundraiser, where Valentine gifts can be found, and following the concert goodies will be served.

The concert happens Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anne and St. Edmund’s church in Parksville.

Tickets are $15, $10 for students, available at the door or at Mulberry Bush Bookstores in Qualicum and Parksville.
