The art of E.J. Hughes will be revisited in a show at the Excellent Frameworks Gallery this week in Duncan.

Called Now and Then, the event features a unique blend of the natural beauty of the Cowichan Valley, as art and photography are brought together.

This week will showcase reproductions by legendary artist E.J. Hughes. His paintings of Cowichan Valley subjects will be shown alongside current photographs of the same scenes for a visual comparison to see if the Valley has changed or not in the areas he chose to portray in paint.

The E.J. Hughes Gallery was created by owners Michael Shaw and Janet Truelove Jones, who were enthralled after attending a showing of the painter’s work.

The idea of a specific gallery for his paintings and prints emerged after a suggestion from Hughes’ close friend, Pat Salmon, and Brian McDaniel.
